Credits

What a credit is, what spends it, the order credits are used in, and where to see the balance.

Credits belong to an organization, not to you. Your personal organization has its own balance, separate from every team you're a member of.

What a credit is

One credit is $1.00. Prices can be a fraction of a cent, so a call might cost 0.002 credits.

You buy credits on Account → Organization → Credits through Stripe Checkout, 10 to 10,000 at a time. You don't need a plan to buy or spend them.

What spends them

A call to a priced gateway or priced hosted module. Its owner sets the price per call, and the owner's organization and its members call it for free. See Pricing and earnings for the owner's side.

Credits also buy more RPCs once a side is past its plan's monthly ceiling: an RPC block is 100,000 RPCs for 1.5 credits.

The callCharged?
The server answersYes, even when the answer is the tool reporting its own error
It fails at the transport layer, at sign-in, or inside Odel before reaching the serverNo
Your organization can't cover the priceNo: it's refused before it reaches the server

A refused call tells your client the price, how many of your credits can pay for that server, and where to top up:

Weather Lookup: this server charges 0.05 credits per call and your organization can spend
0.02 credits on it. Top up at https://odel.app/account/credits

Here the organization has 0.02 credits left that may pay for Weather Lookup. That isn't a cap: buy credits, or get a grant that covers it, and the next call goes through. There is no overdraft.

The order credits are used in

Each purchase, plan month or grant lands as its own entry, and a call always draws from the first entry in this order:

  1. From an organization: credits a team granted you.
  2. Included with the plan: your plan's monthly credits. They expire at the end of the billing period.
  3. Purchased: what you bought. Purchased credits don't expire.

Within one step, the entry that expires soonest goes first.

Example. You have 3 credits from a team grant, 5 from your plan, and 20 purchased. A month of calls that costs 6 credits empties the grant and takes 3 of the plan's 5. Your 20 purchased credits are untouched.

A granted credit can be limited to modules the team names. Credits limited that way pay for nothing else, so a call to another module skips them.

Where to see it

The Credits page shows the owner the balance, each entry behind it with what's left and when it expires, every purchase, and what the organization spent over the last 30 days (7 on the Free plan). A purchase whose Checkout was closed before paying stays listed as pending, and Complete purchase finishes it while the Checkout session is still open. Invoices, above the purchases, opens the organization's invoices in Stripe's billing portal; see receipts and tax.

Your dashboard shows your personal organization's balance and recent spend, with a shortcut to top up.

To get unspent credits back, see Refunds.
