Pricing and earnings

Setting a per-call price on a gateway or hosted module, who pays it, and what you earn from it.

A price is charged per tools/call, not per connection or per month, and only to callers from outside your organization. Your own members always call for free. Everything else a client sends (initialize, tools/list, resources/read, prompts/get) is never priced.

Setting a price

The Pricing card sits on the Overview tab of a hosted module's project page and of a gateway's page. Edit Price per call and save.

  • The unit is credits (1 credit = $1.00), with up to six decimals: the smallest price is 0.000001, the largest 1000. 0 or an empty field means free.
  • Only an admin or owner of the organization can change a gateway's price.
  • A change applies without a redeploy, and a published listing picks it up straight away.

The marketplace card and the module page show the price: Free, or the amount per call.

Who pays

The caller's personal organization pays, out of its own credits. Members of the organization that owns the gateway or module are never charged, whichever organization they call from. A caller who can't cover the price is refused before the call reaches your server, with a message naming the price and where to top up; see Credits.

A tools/call from outside your organization that…Charged
gets a result backYes
gets a result the tool marked as an error (isError)Yes
gets a JSON-RPC error backNo
times out, can't reach your server, or fails sign-inNo
is refused for lack of creditsNo, and your server never sees it

Odel charges for a served answer, not a successful one: if your tool answers with an error, the caller paid for that answer.

What you earn

You keep 80% of every charge. Odel keeps the rest as a platform fee. Your share is worked out per call, in credits, and recorded with the call.

The Earnings tab under Analytics shows it for the active organization over the range picked at the top of the page:

  • Your earnings, Charged to callers (gross), Platform fee and Per 1,000 calls.
  • Earnings over time, Per bucket or Cumulative.
  • Who earns: your share per gateway or module.
  • Pricing: what each entry charges now, its calls, and what it earned.

Earnings aren't paid out yet.

Example

You price a gateway at 0.002 credits per call. In a month, callers from other organizations make 10,000 calls that get an answer, your own team makes 2,000, and 50 outside calls time out.

Credits
Charged to callers: 10,000 × 0.00220
Your earnings: 80%16
Platform fee4

Your team's 2,000 calls and the 50 timeouts cost nothing.
